Transport Manager

Job Description

We are currently looking for a Transport Manager to manage our Transport/Fleet department at our Headquarters in Steeton (West Yorkshire, UK).

As the Transport Manager, you will be responsible for the comprehensive management of our LGV fleet operations. Your role will encompass route planning, vehicle maintenance, regulatory compliance, and overseeing a team of drivers and support staff to maintain high standards of service and safety. You will work closely with senior management to develop strategies that enhance operational efficiency, reduce costs, and drive continuous improvement.

Salary: £40,000 - £50,000 (DOE)

The Ideal Candidate

  • CPC (essential)
  • Proven experience in transportation management or a similar role
  • Strong knowledge of transportation regulations and best practices
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Ability to analyse data and make informed decisions
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills

Key Responsibilities

  • Leading the fleet team, ensuring high performance and completion of all responsibilities.
  • Oversee the routing of LGV vehicles to ensure efficiency and compliance with company standards.
  • Oversee driver performance, ensuring adherence to vehicle use policies and tachograph regulations.
  • Ensure the team maintains the fleet database, including handling invoices, new and sold vehicles, taxes, MOT, and servicing.
  • Manage insurance claims, including reporting and handling until completion.
  • Ensure all drivers adhere to company vehicle policies and promote positive driver behaviour.
  • Oversee the satisfactory completion of annual and monthly driver audits.
  • Oversee the fuel management system and monitor fuel consumption to detect any irregularities or potential fraud
  • Maintain the Motor Insurance Database (MID) to ensure all vehicles are covered at all times.
  • Produce monthly reports on fuel usage, fleet management, mileage, and conduct fleet reviews.
  • Set up accounts at garages for employees and conduct regular price comparison checks on suppliers.
  • Ensure proper management and maintenance of all company vehicles in line with VOSA/government regulations.
  • Stay informed about industry regulations and ensure fleet compliance.
  • Be available on call for emergencies.

Salary Package

Salary: £40,000 - £50,000 (DOE)

About the Operations Department

Our Operations teams play an important role in keeping everything moving so that our customers receive outstanding service. With more than 1.5 million components in our logistics supply chain our Operations team are able to track the location of every component and know in real time what components our engineers have used. Whether a stairlift installation takes place in Manchester or Milan replacement parts are despatched, often on the same day, to ensure all our customers' needs can be met. Acorn's Global fleet consists of around 600 vehicles which are the workhorses of our organisation and it is vital they are maintained and serviced to a high standard. Opportunities within Operations include team leader, logistics co-ordinator, fleet administration and heavy goods vehicle driver.
